My Story... Part of It, Anyway.
So many of you have sent me messages asking for details about the “diet” I used to release 50-55 unhealthy pounds. I hesitated to reply to most of these questions because the details of my life-changing program were too much for a tweet. With my one-on-one coaching clients I’ve been able to work privately on helping others make permanent (so far) lifestyle changes get the same results.
Oh, in case we’ve never met, I’m Abiola, a Love-Body-Spirit Coach based in New York City. I spent the early 00s as a lifestyle correspondent for networks like NBC and HBC and writing/directing award-winning art films about women’s issues. By 2008 I had written my first book, had a national advice column and was hosting a short film competition for a major cable network. Then I was replaced by Hill Harper on the show (true story!) When the market crashed I saw a role on a reality TV show as a way to help sell my book.
Although at the time I regretted my decision to portray "Miss Picky," it set the way for my true path in life. Even more women started asking me even more for advice. I became even more clear on my personal mission.
Since then I have given advice on networks from MTV to the CW. I have written advice columns for heavyweights like ESSENCE and Match.com. Nonetheless, it has been my greatest honor to work directly with women to help them to create breakthoughs in the lives.

I always advise my coaching clients to end a life cycle or begin a new cycle with a whole life detox or mental cleanse before moving forward. When we hear the word detox, we think about Beyonce and other stars mixing up lemon and cayenne pepper or juicing to create a Master Cleanse. For those of us with roots in the Caribbean or the South, detoxing one’s body is not a new concept. Folks have horror stories about being made to take castor oil or senna as a child for “a good cleaning out,” as my mother would say. 1. WILL I BE HUNGRY ON THIS DETOX PROGRAM?
Starvation is not welcome here. There are yummy recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and snacks. Every delicious meal was created with love by a fab chef to nourish your body from the inside out. This program is not about starvation or deprivation, and we are not counting calories or dwelling on carbs. You will feel satisfied with every bite. Don’t worry. If you do get hungry, there are extra snack recipes just for you!
2. IS IT OK FOR ME TO WORKOUT DURING THIS PROGRAM?
Working out is part of the program! You will be given yoga poses to help release toxins. Releasing sweat through your skin is s key part of body detoxification. Sweating may even help us release heavy metals like mercury. That's why sauna therapy is used for detoxification. If you feel tired or have low energy, exercising restores strength and energy. During this program, you will be eating protein and drinking plenty of liquids, so if you’re already exercising, there’s no reason to stop! Remember that whenever you change the foods you eat your body changes as well. Please consult with your own doctor if you have any specific concerns about your health.
3. WHAT SORT OF PROTEINS WILL I BE EATING?
I offer a Level 1 and Level 2 detox. I recommend the Level 1 vegan option. You will also have the option for plant or animal-based proteins, which will be listed out for you in your recipes and suggested meals. There are so many “clean eating protein sources” to choose from you won’t get bored with your options!
4. AM I ONLY GOING TO BE DRINKING JUICES AND SMOOTHIES?
Absolutely not! This is not that kind of party or detox. While there are some juices and smoothies for you to choose from, you will mostly be eating salads, soups, and even (yes) desserts that are delicious, nutritious, and will eliminate toxins in your body in a safe and natural way.
5. DO I HAVE TO TAKE SUPPLEMENTS, PILLS, AND POWDERS?
So glad you asked that. Nope. Not in this program!! The only supplement I recommend that everyone take on a daily basis is a probiotic, and you’ll learn why in this program. Cleansing is an ongoing process because we live in semi-toxic enviroments.
6. CAN I DO THIS IF I’M NURSING OR PREGNANT?
If you’re nursing or pregnant, your doctor is the person to talk to. My expert team recommends that If you are nursing that you add at least 4-6 ounces of protein at lunch and dinner, boost your morning smoothie with a scoop of hemp or pea protein, and eat snacks in between meals. Make sure you are consuming extra fat and drinking enough liquids. This program does not include any detox-provoking agents, but again, please consult with your doctor prior to starting this (OR ANY) program if you have any health concerns. This is not a replacement for medical advice.
7. WILL I FEEL WEAK DURING THIS PROGRAM?
You are going to feel so strong and energized it will amaze you! In the beginning, your body may go through a “healing phase” to re-balance and let go of toxicity. It is important to listen to your body through this program, and I will be here to support you with that. I will guide you step by step through exactly what can be done to reduce any unwanted symptoms that may appear. This program is completely flexible for figuring out what works for YOU!
8. I DON’T EAT GLUTEN OR DAIRY. HOW CAN THIS PROGRAM HELP ME?
We’re on the same page, lovie. I am gluten-free, grain-free and dairy free for the most part although cheese is still a challenge at times! Many people who eat very “clean” already still have room to empty out the pipes with an elimination diet and take their healthy habits to the next level. Changing up the foods we eat gives our digestion time to rest and reset, which can be helpful for anyone regardless of their current eating habits. Don’t forget, this is more than a physical detox, it is a love-body-spirit detox.
9. IS EATING ON THIS PROGRAM EXPENSIVE?
You're given menus and suggested shopping lists with a variety of options. This is a whole, healthy foods program.
10. WHAT SIDE EFFECTS MIGHT I EXPERIENCE?
Some people go through this program and feel nothing but energized, while others may feel tired or light-headed as their bodies eliminate and let go of unnecessary toxins and excess weight. The experience will differ from one person to the next, but this program is designed with that in mind, and you’ll have access to all the tools you need to keep any unwanted symptoms at bay.
